John Paulin, a Berkeley artist, began making art after completing his Ph.D. in philosophy and Greek Tragedy. As an artist, John is largely self-taught and admires abstract art, art from the ancient Mediterranean, petroglyphs, and other art forms from around the world. He works in real media, including paint, ink, and graphite as well as digital media. Prints are in pigmented inks on rag paper. Recently, John has moved from pure abstraction to a form of conceptual bricolage that attempts to reconcile abstract art with abstract thought. Matters of interest to him are incorporated as lines of verse, prose, and other textual and symbolic media. His art blog (www.johnpaulin.com/blog2/) elaborates the conceptual dimensions of his work, his thoughts on aesthetics, the environment, politics, and the cosmos more generally. @johnpaulin_art.
